This page contains some notes on a family whose origins we are researching. We are uncertain about their early history, but we hope that by publishing this summary here we can make contact and exchange data with people who can help to complete the picture.
The Yaxley family lived near Reepham in Norfolk. We have traced the following generations of people who, we believe, are part of the same family but did not always use the same surname:
Ursula Overton (died 1839)
George Yaxley (1784 - 1862) and Mary Coxford (1783 - 1850)
Edward Yaxley (1819 - 1878) and Mary Ann Larkman (1816 - 1851)
Sarah Selina Yaxley (1844 - 1925) and James Anderson (1843 - 1931)
Edward Yaxley was baptised in Hackford, near Reepham in Norfolk, although his name appears in the parish register as Edward Yaxley Overton. He later became a tanner in Bermondsey, London. Edward's father, then known as George Overton, was baptised in Reepham, the illegitimate son of Ursula Overton. It appears that an entire family who themselves used the surname Yaxley was called Overton in the parish and other records. Ursula Overton married Thomas King in 1793 and lived in Booton. We also know something about the families of Mary Coxford and Mary Ann Larkman.
We have found an Ursula Overton who was baptised in the parish of Melton Constable, although she is of an earlier generation than the Ursula who married Thomas King. It is not a common name, so there may possibly be a family connection here.
